Dorothy Ann Blauvelt Ralson, 58, of Gettysburg and formerly of Fort Myers, FL, Captiva Island, FL, North Caldwell, NJ, Glen Rock, NJ, and Maywood, NJ, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at The Dove House in Westminster, MD. She leaves behind her husband, Lesley L. Ralson.
Born May 6, 1951 in Hackensack, NJ, she was the beloved daughter of the late William G. and Dorothea (Ebert) Blauvelt.
Dorothy was a member of the Association of Blauvelt Descendants. During the Association's reunion in Gettysburg several years ago, Dorothy conducted an escorted tour through her Civil War historical home, The Swope Mansion. She was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Dorothy had a love for photography and was featured at the Gargoyles of Gettysburg Exhibit at Gettysburg College. She also created a poster of stained glass windows found in Adams County churches. Her work was also included in a lecture series at St. James Church. She donated her work in the joy of service to the community.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is her son, William, and her daughter, Dana, both of whom made her so proud; three step-daughters, Leslie Cotter of Houston, TX, Simone Dicks of Houston, and Stephanie Hammonds of Dallas, TX; her sisters, Patricia Liguori of Maywood, NJ, and Kathy Warren and her husband James of Glen Rock, NJ; her brother, Kenneth Blauvelt and his wife Ruth of Pomona, NY; two nephews; and many good friends, especially Dana and Jeff.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. Visitation will be held between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. Family and friends will process from Peters Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. for the service. Entombment will be in Westwood Cemetery, NJ.
