Obituary

Doris E. (Miller) Witherow, 75, of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Stephen Witherow.

Born June 20, 1934 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine (Clapsaddle) Miller.

Mrs. Witherow was a 1952 graduate of Gettysburg High School and attended St. James Lutheran Church. She was employed as a cook at many local restaurants including Marvelous Marv's, Big Bopper, the Dobbin House, Varsity Diner, Glenn's Diner, and, most recently, The Pike. She was also a sales representative with Avon for over 35 years.

Mrs. Witherow was a social member of the Gettysburg American Legion Post 202. In her free time, she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and Bingo.

Surviving are seven children, Debra C. Kessler, Daniel Stonesifer, David Young, Richard Marker, Susan Rudisill, and Robert Marker, all of Gettysburg, and Jeffrey Marker of Orrtanna; one sister, Shelby Jean Greenwald of Abbottstown; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. The family will receive friends beginning 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
