Donald C. Swope's Obituary
Donald C. Swope, 70, of Littlestown, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Married November 4, 1961, he was the husband of Donna (Eyler) Swope.
Born December 19, 1938 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Kathryn G. (Rager) Swope.
Mr. Swope was a retired woodworker who was employed with Taney Supply for 25 years. He specialized in stairway trim, and his finishing work can be found in homes throughout the nation.
After attending Gettysburg High School, Mr. Swope served his country honorably with the US Army Reserves. He was also a life member of the Littlestown Fish and Game Club. In his free time, Mr. Swope enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and shooting clay birds.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his son, Donald Lee Swope and his wife JoAnna of Taneytown; his daughter, Diane D. Hoke and her husband John of Hanover; his brother, Charles W. Swope, Jr., and his wife Meg of Mt. Airy; three grandchildren, Nicole Bassler of Littlestown, Lauren Black of New Windsor, MD, and Darrin Hitzelberger of Taneytown; and three great-grandchildren, Braelyn Bassler, Elijah Harris, and Malayna Black. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Charles Swope.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Faye C. Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends between 10 and 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Joy Lutheran Church Cemetery.
