Born September 10, 1948 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Carl L. and Dolores L. (Smith) McCans.
Mr. McCans was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg. A 1966 graduate of Gettysburg High School, he attended Shippensburg University and later earned his Associate's Degree in Business from Hagerstown Community College where he was a member of the golf team.
Mr. McCans served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He was employed as a management assistant with the FCC, Gettysburg, since 1982. A member of the NRA, Mr. McCans loved to hunt, especially on his grandfather's farm in Fairfield, and was a big Philadelphia Phillies fan.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his sister, Carolyn L. DeWeese and her husband Tom of Marshall, VA; his brother, Lee D. McCans of Arnold, MD; and five nephews, Thomas P. Ford of Cincinnati, David M. Ford of Doylestown, Carl D. Craig and Jeffery A. Craig both of Remington, VA, and Eric J. Craig of Ashburn, VA.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. Viewing will be held between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. A second viewing will begin 10 a.m. Friday at the church and will run until the time of the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas P. Ford, David M. Ford, Carl D. Craig, Jeffery A. Craig, Eric J. Craig, and Robert S. Becker.
