Obituary

Donald C. Clarenbach, 64, of Gettysburg and formerly of Glenolden, PA, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 13, 2011 after a year-long illness. The joy of his life was his family – Dot, Tim, Heidi, Emily, and Evan.

Born February 8, 1947 in Ridley Park, PA, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Carolyn D. (Milne) Clarenbach.

Don was respected by all who knew him, a man of strong faith who was known for his integrity and strength of character. He will be missed by all who loved him and in whose lives he had such a positive influence. He accepted the Lord as a teenager and now is in His presence where there is no suffering or pain.

Don had a successful 33 year career with Sun Company where his main responsibility was Credit Manager in Aston, Delaware County, PA. He was active in his church serving as Deacon, House Committee Chairman, and Sunday School Superintendent at Folcroft Union Church in Folcroft, PA. He was also active in Glenolden Fire Company in his earlier years.

In 2007, Don relocated to Gettysburg with his family in order to be closer to extended family. He attended Memorial Baptist Church, Gettysburg, where he genuinely appreciated the loving and caring folks of that congregation. His last years in Gettysburg brought much joy as he spent many relaxing hours fishing at Laurel Lake. Don also enjoyed working on his model train collection. That, along with spending time with his family, made his life complete.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy L. "Dot" (Paul) Clarenbach; their son, Tim and his wife Heidi (McFeaters) Clarenbach of Gettysburg; and his grandchildren, Emily and Evan. Extended family from Ohio and Florida include his sister, Judy O'Donnell and her husband Richard; and nephews Richard O'Donnell and his wife Sara, and Thomas O'Donnell and his wife Christy and families.

The funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Memorial Baptist Church, 1096 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, with Dr. Ralph W. Eckardt officiating. Calling hours will be between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Flohr's Church Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church. The Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rich O'Donnell, Tom O'Donnell, Lou Barry, Ken McFeaters, Matt Michels, and Tony Polvino.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in Don's memory to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 260 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA 17325 or Post Polio Institute, 151 Prospect Ave., 17A, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
