Obituary

Dennis F. "Denny" Wright, 64 of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Jacqueline M. (Klunk) Wright, Gettysburg and together they celebrated 41 years of marriage on May 19th.

He was born November 1, 1949 in Gettysburg, the son of Ruth V. (Nunemaker) Wright, Gettysburg and the late John F. Wright.

Denny served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a police officer with the Gettysburg Police Department for 28 years retiring as a sergeant in 2001. After retiring from the police department, he was a dispatcher for Adams County Electric Company from 2001 to 2013. He was a life member of the Gettysburg Fire Department; a life member of the Adams County Law Enforcement Association; a life member of the National Rifle Association; a long-time member of the Furnace Run Hunting Camp, Clinton County and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A member of the Hanover Lancer Drum and Bugle Corp, Denny participated in many competitions through the years and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Drum Corp Hall of Fame.

In addition to his wife and mother, Denny is survived by his son, Dustin J. Wright, Gettysburg; daughter, Wendy B. Kane and husband John, Gettysburg; half-sister, Bonnie, Gettysburg and granddaughters, Lily and Aubry Kane, Gettysburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 19th at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Laura Haupt officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM and again on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Adams County Allied Veterans Honor Guard will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Morelock; Garry Gourley; Richard Reese; Robert Heims; Scott Klunk and Todd Miller.
