Obituary

Dennis E. Bear, age 77, of Gettysburg, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, Thursday, November 28, 2024.  He was Born January 13, 1947 in York PA, the son of the late Carl E. Bear and Nora (Gordon) Bear.

Dennis was a 1966 graduate of Gettysburg High School.  He was blessed with lifelong friendships with many of his classmates.  He was formerly employed by Gettysburg National Park Service, Gettysburg School District and was self-employed for many years running the family laundromat and rental business.  He was also co-owner of Dutchcraft Inc, wholesale souvenirs.

He was a past President and Vice President of the Gettysburg Exchange Club.  He volunteered with the Adams County 4H and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR HALL).

Dennis enjoyed riding around in his prized 1964 Ford Galaxy convertible.  He also loved the outdoors, landscaping, civil war history and restoring his beloved civil war home.

There was no greater joy for Dennis than spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.  They made his world go around.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy (Chronister) Bear, who was the love of his life.  He is also survived by a son, David E. Bear and wife Erann Bear of Gettysburg; a daughter Dawn (Bear) Harvey and husband Matthew R. Harvey of Gettysburg; four grandchildren, Mitchell Bear and fiancé Noelle Moody of Dillsburg, Andrew Bear of Gettysburg, Victoria Harvey of Gettysburg and Jayden Harvey of Gettysburg.

Funeral services are entrusted to Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St. in Gettysburg where a viewing will be held Friday, December 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service in celebration of Dennis's life starting at 3:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Dennis's memory may be made to the Salvation Army-Gettysburg Area Unit; 153 N. Stratton St.; Gettysburg, PA 17325 or the Harney Volunteer Fire Department, 5130 Harney Road, Taneytown, MD 21787.
