Delores F. Bergdale, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 5,2017, at
Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg, Pa, after a short illness, her son Erik by her
side.
Delores was born in Gettysburg on February 15, 1927, to Mares and Helen
Sherman. She grew up in Gettysburg, graduating from Gettysburg High School
and attending Gettysburg College.
In 1948, she married the love of her life, the
late Marlin I. Bergdale, who died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her
brother Max Sherman and her sister Shirley Spahr.
Delores loved to play golf and was a long-time member of the Gettysburg Country
Club where she played in and won many tournaments. She and "Swede" raised
their three children, Erik, Becky, and Mark while Delores volunteered with the Girl
Scouts as a troop leader and with various other local organizations. She was a
devoted mother and wife all her life.
Delores and Marlin worked together and owned the Bergdale Insurance Agency in
Gettysburg until Marlin's death in 1998.
Survivors include her daughter Rebecca M. Fiorentino and her husband Mark of
Port Charlotte, Florida; two sons Erik S. Bergdale and his wife Lin of Gettysburg,
and Mark A. Bergdale and his wife Mary of Denver, Colorado; a granddaughter
Erin M. Fratis and her husband Kevin of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; a grandson
Adam Bergdale and his wife Terran of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and six great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one younger sister, JoAnn Cole
and her husband William of Macungie, Pennsylvania.
A private memorial and graveside service will be held at a future date.
