Darlene F. (Beauseigneur) Newman, 76 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving wife of the late Donn W. Newman who passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012; together they shared 36 years of marriage.

Born Sunday, October 12, 1941 in Clearfield, she was a daughter of the late Sheridan and Josephine E. (Rolley) Beauseigneur.

Darlene was a graduate of St. Francis High School in Clearfield in 1958. A few years later she entered into the Sisters of St. Joseph, an order of the Roman Catholic Church, at the Villa Maria Convent in Erie for seven and a half years; she professed her vows taking the name Sister Marie Francine. Darlene received her BA in elementary education from Villa Maria and then went on to serve as a teacher for seven years in the Parochial schools of the Erie Diocese and the St. Joseph Orphanage in Erie.

After returning to a secular life and moving to Gettysburg, Darlene started working as a teacher in Hanover for three and a half years and was also a child nutrition coordinator of Community Food and Nutrition Program for the South Central Community Action Programs. In addition to her BA, Darlene received a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Shippensburg University, and a Master's degree in Languages from Penn State University.

Darlene is survived by two sisters, Regina Gettig of Boalsburg, Carolyn Waldman of Monroe, NJ; six nephews; three nieces; 14 great nephews; 11 great nieces; three great great nephews, and 12 great great nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, Darlene was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Wilson and Dorothy Lingerski; a brother, Robert Beauseigneur, and a niece Jeannie Carol Smothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 1095 Church Rd, Orrtanna, PA 17353 with Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St. Gettysburg PA 17325. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Orrtanna.
