Dale G. Showers, Chambersburg, PA, passed away on September 25, 2024, at Mercy House, Chambersburg.  He was the son of the late Edgar C. and Ruth Wingert Showers, born in Menallen Township, Adams County on November 30, 1926.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Janet Sandoe Showers in 1991 to whom he was married nearly 40 years, and his second wife Martha Coble Showers in 2021 to whom he was married for 28 years.  He is survived by two daughters, Martha Wolf and her companion Chuck Sawicki of Gettysburg and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Linda Taylor and husband, Donald, of Biglerville, three grandchildren, Kathryn "Kate" Saylor and husband Kevin of Walkersville, MD, Kurt Taylor and wife Terra, and Kent Taylor, of Biglerville, PA, and he is survived by five great grandchildren, Zachary, Sophie, Andrew Taylor and Mason and Landon Saylor. Dale also leaves behind three siblings: Joseph Showers, Dora Sandoe, and Marie Helm, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Dale was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald R Wolf.

Dale retired from PennDOT in 1989 with more than 20 years of service. In his early years, he was a fruit grower, as his lifelong passion was growing fruit, and he will always be remembered for his famous black raspberries. Fruit growing brought him great pleasure and so it became a hobby that he continued until 2019. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of St. Thomas.

There will be no viewing. A private graveside service will be held with Pastor Garry Sheaffer officiating, per Dale's request, with interment at Biglerville Lutheran Cemetery.  The family suggests gifts be made to the Biglerville Scholarship at Adams County Community Foundation, 25 S 4th Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.  The Biglerville Scholarship has been given for several years already and was formed in honor and memory of Dale G. and Janet Sandoe Showers for students entering the trades or medical studies.  Online condolences may be made through Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg, PA, online at www.petersfuneralhome.com.
