Cory Michael William Vos, 34, of Gettysburg and formerly of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, January 2 at his residence.
Born October 18, 1976 in Bay City, MI, he was the son of Michael and Barbara (Olver) Vos.
Cory was a 1995 graduate of Fairfield Area High School where he excelled in the music department. He played saxophone for the marching, concert, and jazz bands and was a member of both the choir and show choir.
After graduating from high school, Cory joined the Marines and was stationed in Parris Island for nearly four years. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he was employed at a number of local companies until beginning his career as a Zoning Officer with Mt. Pleasant Township in 2006. He recently earned his Building Code Official (BCO) certification.
Cory loved to learn. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, researching any topic that interested him, and working on his computer. He was an avid movie fan, and he cherished the time spent with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, is his sister, Brandy McNew and her husband Jesse of Friendship, MD; his nephew, Quinn Michael McNew; paternal grandparents, Phyllis Adams of Pinconning, MI and Francis Vos of West Branch, MI; his extended family of many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his pet cat, Ned.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Dolores (McDonald) Olver.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Lakeside at Fort Ritchie, 14324 Lake Royer Drive in Cascade, MD with Rev. Hope McNew officiating. The family will receive friends beginning 10 a.m. Friday at Lakeside. Burial will be private. The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.
