Colton L. Hughes, 52, of Whitehall, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Erica E. (Alexander) Hughes.

He was born December 19, 1965 in Hanover, the son of Linda A. (LeGore) Hughes, Whitehall and the late Samuel Hughes.

Colton graduated in 1983 from Gettysburg Senior High School and received his Bachelor of Arts Degrees in American Studies and History from Muhlenberg College, Allentown.   He served as an Allentown City police officer from February 26, 1990 until May 10, 2007 and taught at the Allentown Police Academy from 2002 until 2007.

Along with the love he had for his family, Colton always had a great affection for those in need of help; children, the elderly and animals. Colton demonstrated honorable perseverance and commitment towards attaining two Bachelor of Arts college degrees from Muhlenberg College and many law enforcement certifications. His passion for learning could also be seen through his instructional skills. Inspiring, motivating and dynamic were comments his students often shared.

Colton was a devoted son, brother, husband and cherished friend to so many. His love and affection towards others was most clearly shown, rather than spoken. For those who knew him best, Colton's character was rooted in loyalty, compassion and his enjoyment for golf, motorcycles, music and good spirits with friends and loved ones. Colton's strength, courage and living life to the fullest was one of many gifts we will forever remember in gratitude.

In addition to his wife and mother, Colton is survived by his sister Samantha Biegley and husband Donald, Bath, PA.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Benders Church Cemetery, 1385 Rentzel Road, Biglerville, PA.  Serving as pallbearers will be Laramie Hughes, Leland Hughes, Lance Hughes, Dustin Muller, Matt Muller, Tim Galloway and Mike Serbia.  A Celebration of Life for Colton will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 12 noon at the Fullerton American Legion, Post 367, 609 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall,  PA.
