He was born January 2, 1927 in Ashland, Ohio the son of the late Clyde William, Sr. and Elizabeth (Warner) Baumgardner.

Clyde served his country with the Merchant Marines during WW II and would later help to restore the John W. Brown Liberty Ship in Baltimore, MD. He retired from MET ED as a crew chief after 33 years of service and later worked in the transportation department at Gettysburg College for 20 years. Clyde was a man of many interests, which included hunting; collecting coins and stamps; civil war history and building model airplanes. He was also an accomplished pilot having owned a Piper Cub plane.

His memberships included the American Legion Post 202, Gettysburg; the 40 and 8 Club, Gettysburg and the Adams County Crime Stoppers where he received the Governor's award. Clyde had a great love for the water and at his request, following cremation his remains will be scattered at sea.

In addition to his wife, Clyde is survived by his children, Susan Sanders and her husband Gerald, Gettysburg; Barry Baumgardner, Spring Grove; Betty Welty and her husband Stephen, Hanover; James Baumgardner; Lisa Baumgardner, Gettysburg and Gary Baumgardner and his wife Amy, Hanover, sisters, Eileen Rusinko and her husband Michael, New Oxford and Bea Walker, Ohio, six grandchildren, Leslie; Stephanie; Sherry; Wesley; Derek and Ashley, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Clyde W. Baumgardner, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 7 PM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
