Clara K. "Peggy" Edgcomb, 91 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2016 at home.
Born October 20, 1924 in Eagle Rock, CA, she was a daughter of the Jack Lewis and Ruth (Brown) Manis.
Peggy graduated from Ball State University in 1946 with a degree in Education. She married Robert A. Edgcomb who was a mechanical engineer for Edgcomb Engineering of Burbank, CA. After moving to Rialto, CA. Peggy began working for Fontana School district as an Art teacher and later she took a position as a special education teacher for the same district. Peggy took on other jobs while maintaining the status of a teacher. Other positions included were Certified Travel agent for Serendipity travel agency of San Bernardino, CA. and teaching gourmet cooking at night at Fontana High School. Peggy's children remember her as a driven worker and she taught her children the value of hard work to achieve their personal goals. Peggy finally retired to Berne, IN. in 1991. While in retirement, Peggy volunteered for the United States Government and worked for AmeriCorps VISTA at the Fort Wayne, Indiana Food Bank, and the David Wills House when she moved to Gettysburg, PA. Peggy moved into Arne and Tammie Edgcomb's household in June of 2000.
Peggy is survived by her children and their family; a son, Arne Edgcomb and his wife Tammie of Gettysburg, PA; a grandson Brandon Edgcomb of Gettysburg; a daughter, Shirley Appel and her husband Ray of North Lake Tahoe, NV, and daughter in law Krisann Edgcomb, of Sandpoint, ID.
In addition to her parents, Peggy, was preceded in death by, a son, James Robert Edgcomb of Sandpoint, ID, a sister, Jane Backstorm, and a former spouse, Bob Edgcomb.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Peggy Edgcomb will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, 30 W. High St., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Jay Zimmerman officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery, North Hollywood, CA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Peggy's memory to Gettysburg United Methodist Church Outreach program, 30 West High Street, Gettysburg, PA. 17325.
The family would like to thank Spiritrust Lutheran Hospice, her friends, and her Pastor, for her care and dedication to make her last days comfortable.
