Charles M. Utz, Sr., 79, of Gettysburg and formerly of Taneytown, MD, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital.  He was the loving husband of Judy M. (Ruby) Utz, Gettysburg; together they shared 59 years of marriage.

Born April 19, 1943 in Union Mills, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Augustus and Helen Irene (Keeney) Utz.

Charles worked on the family farm in Taneytown, MD for 35 years and was the owner of Utz Truck Equipment, Westminster, MD.  He also worked as a mechanic for Snyder Truck Body, Greenmount, MD and was employed with Carroll County Roads, Stambaugh Construction, Union Bridge, MD and CRS, Gamber, MD.  Charles retired from Piney Creek, Westminster, MD where he was a street sweeper in Baltimore County and Baltimore City.  He enjoyed hunting and farming.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children, Vicki Fay Helmick and husband Keith, Chambersburg, PA, Charles "Chuck" M. Utz, Jr. and wife Blanca, Pompano Beach, FL, Randy Dean Utz, Orangeburg, SC and Brian Allen Utz and wife Sandy, Westminster, MD; brother, Gary A. Utz, Buckeystown, MD; grandchildren, Dennis Keith Helmick and wife Melinda, Chambersburg, PA, Justin Charles Helmick and wife Haley, Chambersburg, PA, Shane Utz, Westminster, MD, Calvin Utz, Westminster, MD, Carrie Metz, Orangeburg, SC, Katie Metz, Orangeburg, SC, Alexandria Utz, Hanover, PA and Christopher Thomas Aldridge, Sykesville, MD and great grandchildren, Dustin Pisle-Martin, Chambersburg, PA, Honestie Helmick, Chambersburg, PA, Bennett Helmick, Chambersburg, PA and Axle Weaver, Hanover, PA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Harriet W. Chronister.

A service to celebrate the life of Charles M. Utz, Sr. will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at 2 PM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday from 1 PM until the start of the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be private.
