Mr. Smith was born September 4, 1931 in Gettysburg the son of the late Clarence Harold and Ruth Hannah (Myers) Smith.
Charles was blessed with a wonderful family and he loved spending as much time with them as he could, he was a lifelong truck driver and when he wasn't with his family he enjoyed small engine repair. Charles was a U.S Army veteran having served during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife Charles is survived by four children; son Melvin W. Smith and his wife Molly of Aspers, son Robert D. Smith, Sr. and his wife Kathy of New Oxford, daughter, Diana L. Coons of New Oxford, daughter, Tammy M. Doty and her companion Tom Verdier of Orrtanna, three sisters; Dora Fitzberger of New Oxford, Nancy Bowers of New Oxford, Lorna Runk of New Oxford, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many other loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles E. Spielman, daughter, Juanita Lee Smith, and sister, Edith Lehigh.
A service to celebrate the life of Charles will be held at 12pm on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Kenneth R. W. Reid officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday from 6 to 8pm and then again on Monday from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. Pallbearers will be; Justin A. Verdier, Robert D. Smith, Jr., Gregory L. Smith, Jeremy A. Smith, Joshua A. Smith, Tyler J. Smith, Michael D. Spielman, and Kevin C. Spielman. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Melvin W. Smith, and Robert D. Smith, Sr.
