Obituary

Charles M. Polley, 86, of Gettysburg, passed away on Wednesday February 13, 2008 at the Gettysburg Hospital. He was the loving husband of 60 years to Ruthanna (Kime) Polley of Gettysburg.

He was born February 24, 1921 in Chambersburg, PA the son of the late Charles A. and Carrie J. (Baker) Polley.

Mr. Polley graduated from Penn Harris High School in Harrisburg and served his country during WW II with the Army Air Force in Europe. He attended Gettysburg College and was employed with the Gettysburg Area School District from 1963 until his retirement in 1991. During his time with the school district, he directed traffic at the intersection of Baltimore and Lefever streets. Mr. Polley was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a life long supporter of the NRA and was a hunter safety instructor for many years. Mr. Polley was a member of Gettysburg United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Polley is survived by a daughter; Mary Lee Shreve and her husband Robert of Dillsburg, a son; Dave Polley of Gettysburg and two grandchildren; Edward Frampton of State College, PA and Heather Frampton of Rhode Island.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter; Rebecca Ann Polley who died February 23, 1957.

The funeral will be Monday February 18, 2008 at 2 PM at the Peters Funeral Home 321 Carlisle St. Gettysburg with Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors conducted by the Adams County Allied Veterans Council will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
