Charles B. Coffman, 83, of Gettysburg passed peacefully Friday January 18, 2008 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Myrtis Louise (Johnson) Coffman of Gettysburg, his wife of 61 years.

He was born April 23, 1924 in Gettysburg, the son of the late Albert Sidney and Georgia Boyd (Repass) Coffman.

Mr. Coffman was a 1942 graduate of Gettysburg High School and was a member of Gettysburg United Methodist Church. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII in the European Theater and was a prisoner of war held captive for 13 months in Belgium and Germany. Mr. Coffman and his wife established Coffman Jewelers in 1948 at their original location on Chambersburg Street. They later moved to their present location on Baltimore Street providing service to the residents of Gettysburg for 60 years. He enjoyed nature and had a fondness for classic automobiles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Craig H. Coffman of Gettysburg; a daughter, Gale I. Bachich and her husband John of Glenmoore, PA; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Peter Bachich, both of Glenmoore, PA; and a brother, James Coffman of Harrisburg, PA.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Freda Stephenson and Sara Ann Cieri.

There will be a Memorial Service Saturday January 26, 2008 at 3:00 PM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg.
