Charles Edward Arendt, 82, of Gettysburg, entered into God's eternal care Saturday, May 3, 2008 at his residence. He was the husband of P. Jean (Hooven) Arendt.
Born May 11, 1925 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late David B. and Helen (Koontz) Arendt.
Mr. Arendt was a member of the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren since 1959. A 1943 graduate of Gettysburg High School, he served his country honorably as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Arendt was self-employed for many years as a painter in the Gettysburg area. He later drove for KBS Trucking in Thomasville.
Mr. Arendt was an excellent woodworker. He was especially fond of crafting furniture and toys. A true gentleman, Charlie was always ready to help others.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his son, Michael C. Arendt and his wife Patricia, of Gettysburg; his daughter, Judy D. Lindeborg, of Gettysburg; three sisters, Catherine Catterson, of Camp Hill, Janet Coleman, of Gettysburg, and Arlene Klinefelter, of Glen Rock; two brothers; Francis Arendt, of Waynesboro, and Eugene Arendt, of Youngsville, NC; five grandchildren, David Arendt, Barry Arendt, Charles Beadon, Don Beadon, and Laura Arendt; four great-grandchildren, Kelly Beadon, Rachael Beadon, John Beadon, and Audrey Arendt; two step-great-grandchildren, Michael Martin and Kyle Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Arendt; and two sisters, Florence Richwine and Thelma Hollis.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Chambersburg Road, Gettysburg, with Pastors Peggy Stoner and Patricia Arendt officiating. There will be no public viewing.
The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, is assisting the family with arrangements.
