Catherine "Jean" (Lensch) Hobbs, 90 of Gettysburg passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. She was the beloved wife of 66 years to Thomas F. Hobbs, whom she married on August 2, 1958.
Born September 27, 1934 in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Bernhard and Dorothy V. (Hobson) Lensch.
Jean is fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother who always cherished her family and put them first. As a dedicated Army wife, she also dedicated herself to serving her community, especially veterans, most notably as Commander of the Ladies Auxiliary at Ellicott City, MD V.F.W. Post 7472, an auxiliary member of Harney, PA V.F.W. Post 6918, and a member of American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville, PA. In her free time, she also enjoyed sewing, tending her many beautiful plants, and cooking and baking, especially Christmas cookies, a tradition which will be carried on by her family.
In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by three children: Linda S. Russo of Aspers, Ronald L. Williams and his wife Judy of Ft. Wayne, IN and Cynthia L. Hobbs of Gettysburg; her daughter-in-law, Susan Williams of Selbyville, DE; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one on-the-way, as well as several step-siblings and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne E. Williams and her brother, Bernhard L. Lensch.
A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 16th at St. James Lutheran Church; 109 York St. in Gettysburg with Pastor Libby Baker-Mikesell officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg. A time to share memories and visit with the family will also be on Saturday at the church from 10:30am until the start of the service.
