Born September 25, 1929 in Arendtsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Roy P. and Dorothy M. (Wingert) Hartzell.

Catherine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose focus was always on her family. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Catherine was a member of Heritage Assembly of God and a lifetime supporter of the local baseball leagues.

Along with her husband, Catherine is survived by her children, Peggy Ann Herring of Gettysburg, Yvonne K. Troxell of Gettysburg, Eugene B. Johnson, Jr. and his wife Carol of Biglerville and Larry L. Johnson and his wife Kathy of Gettysburg.

Also surviving are her 7 grandchildren, Michelle Herring, Eric Herring, Melanie Handelong, Anthony Johnson, Melissa Miller, Crystal Stephenson and Barrett Johnson; and her 8 great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Wherley, Allison Herring, Dakota Herring, Olivia Handelong, Kyler Johnson, Cody Johnson, Kaytie Stephenson and Lilly Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Gary L. Herring; and brother, Robert P. Hartzell.

A service to celebrate the life of Catherine will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Heritage Assembly of God, 1575 Chambersburg Rd., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Jeffrey K. Wilson officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg and again on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Herring, Anthony Johnson, Barrett Johnson, Dakota Herring, Robert Handelong, and Joel Redding.

Memorial donations in Catherine's memory may be made to her church, Heritage Assembly of God at the address above.
