Obituary

Brenda Jean Herring, 73 of Gettysburg died at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home in Gettysburg on Friday, October 4th, 2024.  She was born in Gettysburg on December 18, 1950, the daughter of the late Eugene W. and Dorothy I. (Huff) Herring who both died in 2007.

Brenda was a member of Heritage Assembly of God Church in Gettysburg.  She was a 1968 graduate of Gettysburg High School.  She loved to play sports, especially softball.  She was a member of the Old Mill Softball Team, playing third base in her early years.  Brenda was also an umpire for Gettysburg Little League Baseball.

Brenda retired from Schindler Elevator Corporation in 2012 after 40 years of service.  She worked part-time at Lake Heritage as a security guard at the gate house after retirement.  Brenda was a person with a kind heart.  She would do anything for you.  After retirement, she was a member of the Coupons-To-Troop Program.  She would cut and sort manufacturing coupons with her group, Classic Clippers.  Brenda would send boxes of coupons to seven military bases overseas each month.  She also loved to bake and read mystery books.  She especially enjoyed riding her Harley trike and feeding her deer in the backyard.  She loved to play BINGO.

Brenda is survived by her three sisters: Diane Kugler of Shippensburg, PA, Sharon Patterson of Gettysburg and Nancy Husser of Husser, LA., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Gary, who died in 2011 and Dennis who died in 2003.

A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday, October 10th from 10am until 12 noon at Peters Funeral Home, Inc.; 321 Carlisle St. in Gettysburg.  Guests are then invited to proceed to Heritage Assembly of God; 1575 Chambersburg Rd.; Gettysburg, PA 17325 where a memorial service will begin at 12:30pm officiated by Pastor Todd McCauslin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Assembly of God at the above address.
