Alice Rebecca Townsend Shelleman, age 97, of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, November 25 at SpiriTrust Lutheran in Gettysburg.  She was the wife of the late George F. "Ben" Shelleman, to whom she was married for 65 years. Born October 21, 1920 at Vera (Appomattox), Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Alton D. Townsend and Mary Susan Goin Townsend.  She was employed at the Adams County Library for 15 years before retiring at the age of 82 and was a member of Great Conewago Presbyterian Church at Hunterstown.

She is survived by a son and two daughters: Lloyd E. Shelleman (Doris Ann) of Bendersville; Carol J. Shelleman Komesz of Camp Hill; and Joyce M. Shelleman (Jeff Shields) of Asheville, NC.  She also is survived by a sister, Dorothy Townsend Grace of Newbern, TN; two grandsons, David L. Shelleman and Mark C. Shelleman; two step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Great Conewago Presbyterian Church in Hunterstown, 174 Red Bridge Road, Gettysburg, with the Reverend Candace Veon-Nyiri officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., in Gettysburg from 11 a.m. until noon.
